As the name of this Substack suggests, I provide a special focus on continuity and canon. While I’m not strict about it, I love connecting the dots between storylines and characters to build a richer, more immersive experience and I’m keen to share this with you.
For example, have you ever wondered how the myriad Transformers comic universes could fit together? They don’t (of course), but there are ways to build an ongoing multiversal storyline out of them. Or perhaps you’ve wondered how the latest Star Trek series’ align with the classic TV shows and movies (and if the official watching order is really the best way forward)? I’ve spent countless hours pondering these questions. Even the tangled web of X-Men movies can be untangled with a bit of creative thinking!
Sci-fi isn’t just about entertainment—it’s about delving into these fictional worlds and uncovering the intricate connections that make them so compelling. Please join me on this journey and let’s explore these incredible universes together!
Who am I?
My name is Matthew. My first science fiction world was The Transformers in comic format. That was back in the 1980s, and I’m still a fan now. Star Trek was a close second, then in my teens I grew to love various other SciFi worlds such as Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Space: Above & Beyond, Star Wars, Farscape, and so on. I also got into Isaac Asimov’s Robot and Foundation stories (and more recently Hubert’s Dune universe).
In the 21st century, my love of comics also grew. I got into Judge Dredd, Marvel, and more recently some aspects of DC. I could name so many others as well, but I’ll leave that for future essays.
